Recipe for Creating a 3 1/2" Bootable Floppy for OS/2 Level 6.304
for the FAT file system. Will not work for HPFS
N.B. The file list is somewhat different than that for OS/2 Level 6.177
I highly recommend getting fpy304.zip from IBMOS2 on CompuServe.
This is a patch for floppy drive access which is abysmal as it
comes from IBM. They really regressed on that one.
This recipe will work for a 1.2MB drive for A: but you will not be able
to include chkdsk.com on the floppy.
Below is Listed the contents of the bootable floppy.
Volume in drive A is unlabeled Serial number is 2489:F815

The file that copies the os2boot, os2krnl and os2ldr to the floppy drive
is named sysinstx.com and is on the Installation Diskette.
You can create these system files by one of two methods:
a) Copy sysinstx.com from the Installation Diskette to your C: Drive
and with a formatted disk in A: give the command
sysinstx a:
Then copy the files from the C: drive using the sources as above.
and also the Installation Disk as required.
b) If you have a two floppy system and need to do this independently of the
hard drive, boot from the a:drive by starting up with the Installation
diskette, then use Diskette 1 on the prompt, Do an Enter and then when
the screen comes up for Starting the Installation Select <Esc> and this
will bring up the command interpreter.
Then put the Installation Diskette in drive A: and give the command
sysinstx b:
This transfers the system files to the floppy on the b: drive.
Then put a formatted floppy in a: and from the b: drive give the command
sysinstx a:
You can then use the B: drive as an intermediary to copy files from
the Installation Diskette or System Disk 1 in order to transfer them
to the boot floppy.
Trust you find this useful.
